Organization is more important than ever during the holidays for retail packaging and shipping stores. Following is a quick checklist to assist you.

  • Estimate December sales day by day.
  • Post schedules weekly, monitoring labor according to your actual sales to your estimated sales.
  • Train employees on any weak areas they may have.
  • Have a Holiday Planning Meeting with employees to discuss what they should expect, holiday hours, holiday operational changes, etc.
  • Order box inventory, retail inventory, and packaging supplies.
  • Order office supplies, such as store pens, shipping labels, cash register paper, etc.
  • Order supplies from the carriers.
  • If you haven't arranged any advertising yet, you still have time to have a post card printed with coupons on it, then mail it first class to your regular customers.
  • Do a press release.
  • Post holiday hours.
  • Post carrier delivery time signage.
  • Sign, address, and mail holiday greeting cards to customers and vendors.
  • Purchase any gifts for your regular carrier drivers and employees.
  • Have closing signs ready for Christmas and New Year's.
  • Schedule end of year inventory.
