Complete turnkeys, which means that you tell us what you need, and
we provide a store that is ready to run. Of course, no store will
open without training. Expect constructive critical advice, since
that is our job. Please see How to Open a
Mail & Parcel Center: Tips from a Consultant first in order
to answer your major questions.
Overall
the services include packaging & shipping training, large freight
training, bookkeeping, accounting, merchandising, sales, advertising,
employee relations, customer service training, store design, store
locating, store operations, and most importantly, consulting on
whether or not you should open a mail and parcel center.
Fran
and her partner, Rutledge, consult
with each other on each client's objectives.
Other
consultants and contractors who we know are knowledgeable and professional
assist with construction and training.
Fran
Scarborough's Vita:
Fran's business life has centered around operations, sales, marketing,
and customer service. She worked in a family-owned grocery store
starting at age eleven and worked other retail, sales, and corporate
jobs continuously since this time.
Before
and during college, she worked for Campbell's Soup/Pepperidge Farm
for six years. She was a store manager and assistant to opening
stores in Texas and Atlanta. She learned the precious art of good
operations and customer service from this fine company, in addition
to earning a regional sales award for highest increase in sales.
Fran's
education was a reflection of what she wanted to do in her work
life. While supporting herself and working her way through college,
Fran earned many college honors. She wrote her thesis on Interdependent
Learning and Interracial Relations. Her thesis supported the fact
that college students learn best when they teach each other, as
opposed to learning alone, regardless of their skin color, national
origin, their prejudice towards others, or other variables. Her
thesis has been reprinted in several languages. You can find it
online at the Georgia State University web site under Fran
Songer, The Effect of An Interdependent Learning Environment
on Prejudice in College Students.
After
college, Fran became a manager for Steak & Ale Restaurants
(owned by Pillsbury at this point). She then moved onward
to become a Food & Beverage Manager for a luxury suite hotel
chain (formally Guest Quarters). GQ promoted her within five
years to several positions: Director of Meetings & Banquets,
Sales Director, and then to Marketing Director. The Marketing Director
position moved her to Charlotte, North Carolina to assist with the
expansion of a hotel.
In
North Carolina, she met Rutledge and helped him with his packaging
and shipping multiple-stores plan. She applied what she knew from
the corporate world to this new industry while overseeing multi-store
operations, new store openings, personnel, bookkeeping and accounting,
sales, and marketing. Within two years, she increased the net income
by 287%.
She
continued on with her education to expand on what she knew and to
learn new aspects of business such as personnel law, accounting,
web design, video production, and more advanced techniques in sales
and marketing.
She
started Vision Alliance Network in 1996 after being an international
export agent for two years. Also, she and her husband and partner,
Rutledge have been consulting for six years to share what they know.
She
and Rutledge have won five national
awards in this industry while working with a franchise. In addition,
they were voted as the vendor with the best products and services
at the Associated Mail & Parcel Centers National Convention
in 2004. This was an award voted by the members at the convention,
which to them is the highest award, so they are most appreciative.
Fran and Rutledge are AMPC Certification Program trainers.
They
still believe in the concept that the customer comes first. Before
implementing policies, they first put themselves in the customers'
point of view. "Without our customers, we wouldn't have a business,"
Fran states. "Our company policy is to make each customer glad
that they called us."
